Today in Year 2 we learned about how plastics are made.
First we each made a molecule of ETHENE.
Formula: C2H4
This small molecule is called a MOMONER
Then we linked all our ethene molecules together to make one giant molecule of POLYTHENE
this large, chain-shaped molecule is called a POLYMER

European Science Olympiad success
Following on from his success in the International Junior Science Olympiad, Wesley student Robert Sparkes has gone on to even greater heights this year.
He has won the Olympiad gold medal in Chemistry and after further training, he has been selected for the Irish team to compete in the European Science Olympiad in Austria next May.
Well done Robert and best of luck to you and the Irish team in the Finals.

Video competitions: Wesley winners!
Congratulation to Jenny Clarke , Shona Breslin and Choy-Ping Clarke-Ng
They were all recently awarded prizes by the Irish Agricultural Science Teachers Association for videos they had made.

SciFest at Wesley 2015
All Year1 students presented a Science Investigation this week as part of the SciFest@Schoolcompetiiton.
A best in each class was selected and our independents judge, Mr Iain Wallace, selected an overall winner.
This was a great project on how different types of music affect the heart rate of the students studied.
Well done to Holly, Jessica and Alex from 1A6!
Thanks to the SciFest organisers for providing the prizes.
